A Meaningful Merdeka For Sri Lankan Refugees Under FreeMakan

The Covid19 pandemic has negatively impacted society, and among the many pockets of society struggling to keep their heads and hopes up during unprecedented times such as this, are the refugees. Malaysia has seen an influx of refugees over of years. Helpless, hopeless and unprotected – refugees bring with them a set of challenges. On 31st august 2021, the Sri Lanka Tamil Refugees Organisation in Malaysia (STROM), in partnership with FreeMakan and an anonymous donor, visited refugee families living around the Klang Valley. With Sri Lankan families living in Petaling Jaya, Sunway and Kepong identified earlier, STROM distributed 121 packs of groceries, paying close attention to safety measures and SOPs throughout. Recipients were truly grateful to have received aid from the collaborative parties involved – FreeMakan, STROM and the anonymous donor, making this Merdeka Day delivery a meaningful one.
