As the water levels rose, the residents of Kampung Jawa fled their homes with only the clothes on their backs. There was little time to collect valuables and anything that couldn’t be carried had to be left behind. Within hours, these 60 families were made homeless and forced to live with relatives or in temporary relief shelters while they waited for the water to recede. However, their houses are still inhabitable and cleaning efforts have only just begun.
Thanks to generous donations by the Malaysian public, volunteers from FreeMakan, Uplift, and the BAC Education Group were able to deliver packs of dry food to these 60 families on December 24th, 2021.
